Simple Sequence Repeat...

Simple sequence repeat (SSR), also called microsatellites, are tandem repeated nucleotide sequences ranging from 2 to 6 base pair in length that vary in repeat motifs and are flanked by conserved DNA sequences. These SSR markers are more polymorphic due to high mutation rate affecting these repeating units. Due to codominant nature, stability, abundancy, sensitivity, suitability for automation and flexibility microsatellite is one of the suitable markers for genome analysis.

Our objectives...

  • Developing new apple specific SSR markers from partial genomic libraries and database.
  • Use of SSR markers to discriminate various apple genotypes.
  • Development of molecular linkage map of apple with intrigation of microsatellite markers and other molecular marker
